Baldwin expands global platform with the acquisition of QuadTech
Baldwin Technology Company Inc.—a world leader in providing process automation solutions, consumables and services for the print, packaging, textile and corrugated industries—has acquired QuadTech, Inc., from its parent company, Quad/Graphics. The Print Show 2018 details early commitment as key names join HP in signing up
Shortly after announcing its move back to the NEC in Birmingham for 2018, organisers of The Print Show have revealed “significant” early interest in the event, with a number of companies joining HP in signing up to exhibit. The Print Show 2018 will take place from September 18th to 20th at the NEC, the site of the inaugural event back in 2015, as well as the 2016 show. This year, The Print Show was staged at the International Centre in Telford and attracted praise from all quarters.

Taopix has appointed Shanghai-based, Boostech, as its value added reseller for China
Founded in 2015, Boostech specialises in personalised and variable data software solutions for commercial printers. The two companies were first introduced to each other at China Print in Beijing in May 2017. Boostech Technical Director, Leo Zhu, says “We met with Taopix at the exhibition and our first impressions were that Taopix would be a really good fit for Boostech and complement our existing portfolio of products.”

Heidelberg Assistant goes into series production
Heidelberger Druckmaschinen AG (Heidelberg) is reaching a milestone in its “Heidelberg goes Digital” strategy with the market launch of the Heidelberg Assistant presented at drupa 2016, and breaking new ground in customer support in the process. With the start of the rollout in the pilot markets of Germany, Switzerland, USA and Canada, the company is placing the customer-supplier relationship on a new footing.

Low-maintenance Turboclean Advanced E continues success of system family
With the new inking and wash-up system TURBOCLEAN, Windmöller & Hölscher has already set a new standard in the market. According to the specialist for machines for the manufacturing of flexible packaging, more than 1,000 systems have now been integrated in central cylinder machines. In 2016, W&H supplemented the system with a new variant: TURBOCLEAN ADVANCED E with low-maintenance electric pumps. Around 50 TURBOCLEAN ADVANCED E units have been sold since the Drupa 2016, which is further proof of the high interest in the market for this future orientated inking and cleaning technology.

Effective retroactively as of January 1, 2017, BST ProControl is now fully integrated into the business processes of BST eltromat International and will continue to operate as an incorporated, independent business unit at its current location in Wenden. BST eltromat has thus taken the final step in merging the two companies and has further optimized its organization and processes. The name ‘BST ProControl’ will be kept for the business unit. MPS to make bold strides into Asia in 2018

Clariant to increase prices for Masterbatch and Compound products
Clariant, a world leader in masterbatches and specialty compounds, has today announced a price increase globally for all masterbatch and compound products containing titanium dioxide, carbon black, pigments, dyes and several additives by 8% (depending on the grade, concentration and quality of the titanium dioxide, carbon black, pigments, dyes and additives).

Stora Enso inaugurates its new polyethylene coating plant at Beihai Mill in China
Stora Enso has invested EUR 31 million in the PE coating plant, following its establishment in the Guangxi region in China as a response to increasing demand on the market. The plant has an annual capacity of 80 000 tonnes of PE coated products. PE coated board is suitable for products that require barrier against moisture, such as paper cups and food service packaging.

HERMA extends its seawater-resistant product range
HERMA is offering new options to make label printing seawater-resistant in accordance with the strict British Standard BS5609 Section 3. Following extensive tests, the self-adhesive materials expert has received the approval for specific flexo printing inks and a commercially available thermal transfer printer. In both cases, this applies to the label materials HERMA PP white extra topcoat (grade 880) and HERMA PE white (grade 850). For printers and label users, this means better safety right from the start and less effort, since they no longer need to apply for their own certifications. Recently, HERMA had introduced materials that allow certain inkjet inks and laser toners to fulfill the requirements of BS5609 Section 3.

European Sign Expo 2018 set to be largest event to date
European Sign Expo, the dedicated non-printed signage event, will return from 15th to 18th May 2018 at Messe Berlin in Germany, alongside FESPA Global Print Expo 2018. Set to be the largest event in its six-year history, with a record number of exhibitors gracing the floor plan, European Sign Expo 2018 will be an unmissable event for sign-makers. The 2018 event is expected to host up to 100 exhibitors covering channel lettering, neon, LED, illuminated display, dimensional signage, etching and engraving, and dimensional signage.
