Esko continues to bring innovations to market while delivering outstanding value to its customers, unveiling a host of new updates for its integrated software platform which will bring operational efficiency improvements to the packaging value chain. From 25 November, significant new functionality has become available to customers with the release of an 18.1 update of the Esko Software Platform, the suite of software solutions from Esko, the global supplier to the label, packaging and wide format sectors.

UPM joins 4evergreen
UPM joins 4evergreen which is a new initative by Cepi, the European association representing the paper industry, to boost the contribution of fibre-based packaging in a circular and sustainable economy. 4evergreen was created as a forum to engage and connect industry members from across the fibre-based packaging value chain, from paper and board producers to packaging converters, brand owners and retailers, technology and material suppliers, waste sorters and collectors.

White paper shows how to improve flexible film coding accuracy and cost

Schur Flexibles Moneta specializes in the production of sophisticated packaging made of extremely thin films and foils for the snack and candy industry. With a new register control system from BST eltromat International the plant is achieving outstanding quality on its gravure printing machines. Prior to this project, two gravure printing machines were successfully retrofitted with register control systems from BST eltromat at the Schur Flexibles Benelux plant in the Netherlands.

Trade fair premiere for Sappi Digital Solutions at the SGI Dubai 2020
Sappi, one of the most innovative manufacturers of printing and speciality papers, starts the year 2020 with a premiere. For the very first time, the globally operating company will exhibit at the SGI Dubai, the well-known Sign & Graphic Imaging Middle East trade fair. António Redondo assumes leadership at Navigator
António Redondo has been named the new Executive Committee Chairman of The Navigator Company, effective as of 01 January 2020, as notified by the company today to the regulatory authority. The company’s new leader will replace João Castello Branco, who has held this position on an interim basis since April 2019, while remaining CEO of Navigator’s holding company Semapa.

First Heidelberg Primefire 106 Starts Production in Japan
The Japanese packaging printer Kabushiki Kaisha Kyoshin Paper & Package (K.K.Kyoshin Paper & Package) and Heidelberg Japan put the first Primefire 106 from Heidelberger Druckmaschinen AG (Heidelberg) into operation at a ceremony in early November. This also marks the launch of the first industrial inkjet digital printing system in B1 format in Japan.

Aleyant, an innovative leader in providing robust software services to the graphic communications industry, and SmartSoft, Inc., a provider of cloud-based workflow and MIS solutions for commercial printers, announced that as part of the ongoing expansion of Pressero, the companies are offering a seamless, bidirectional pricing integration between the Pressero web-to-print solution and Presswise, a PDF workflow automation and print MIS solution. The integration, which has been tested by Alliance Franchise Brands’ Print & Marketing Division, allows Pressero to query the Presswise pricing database when an estimate is being requested or an order is being placed to ensure real-time, accurate pricing from a single database source.

Herma presents new peel-off adhesives
Peel-off label adhesives have so far often had system-related weaknesses – for example when dealing with thermal papers or luxurious or critical surfaces. To change this, HERMA aims to use its innovative multi-layer technology. With the new 42Rpp peel-off adhesive, for example, the penetration of the adhesive through thermal paper that can make printed barcodes illegible over time and has been the bane of the industry is now a thing of the past: tests show that even after five months and at temperatures of up to 40 °C the good legibility of the label imprint remains unchanged.

Heidelberg to focus on core activities with the sale of Hi-Tech Coatings to ICP Group / USA
Heidelberger Druckmaschinen AG (Heidelberg) has sold its Hi-Tech Coatings division for coatings used by the packaging, labeling, and printing industries to Innovative Chemical Products Group’s (ICP Group) Industrial Solutions Group (ISG) division, a leading global provider of packaging, labeling, and specialty clear coatings based in Itasca, IL, USA. The divestiture is a part of Heidelberg’s initiative to focus on core activities and portfolio adjustments. Hi-Tech Coatings develops and produces over 1,000 environmentally compatible products and formulations, primarily water-based and UV-based coatings, at its sites in Aylesbury / UK, Zwaag / Netherlands, and Taylor, MI / USA.

Verico Technology Welcomes Eric Friedman as Sales Manager in the Americas Region
Verico Technology, a leading provider of eco-friendly waterless printing plate solutions and advanced coating technologies, announced the appointment of industry expert Eric Friedman as Sales Manager for Verico’s Zahara waterless offset plate products in the Americas Region, effective November 1, 2019. Friedman joins Verico with an experience of over 35 years in the printing industry, most recently as North American Sales Manager for Waterless Printing Products at Toray International America Inc.
